Two strongholds of drilling in western Oklahoma

Oklahoma was one of a handful of states where oil and gas drilling rig counts grew in the past week, according to a Rig Count released by Baker Hughes Co.

Oklahoma’s gain of two rigs, reaching a count of 43 came in the Cana Woodford where the total reached 15 active rigs. The Granite Wash also saw an increase of one rig for a total of 16.

Other oil plays in the state were steady with the Ardmore Woodford holding at one rig and the Arkoma Woodford still with no reported drilling activity, according to Baker Hughes.

The Mississippian remained at one rig.

Other oil formations and plays included the Permian Basin where the count fell by 3 to 256 rigs. The Eagle Ford total declined one to 38 rigs. The Haynesville added a rig to grow to 41. The Marcellus was unchanged at 24 rigs. The Williston remained at 31 and the Utica stayed at 12 rigs.

The D-J Basin was unchanged with 9 total rigs and the Barnett in North Texas saw no change with a count of 2 rigs.
