
The nation’s oil and gas rig count in the past week took a drop of two rigs, leaving 536 still active, while Oklahoma’s numbers remained steady.
The Baker Hughes rig count, released on Friday, showed a loss of one oil rig but 412 still are in the oil patch. The gas rig count declined by 3 to 119 and the miscellaneous rig numbers were unchanged at 5. The U.S. offshore total also was unchanged at 13 rigs.
A year ago, the rig count was 583 so the decline in the past year totaled 47 rigs. The decline included a loss of 71 oil rigs while the gas drilling count increased by 24. The miscellaneous rig count over the past year was unchanged.
Oklahoma’s numbers remained at 43 rigs. A year ago, the count stood at 39 rigs.
Texas saw a gain of one rig to reach 241 and New Mexico remained at 95 rigs. North Dakota’s total declined by one to 27. Kansas saw a gain of 2 rigs to 17, according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Association in Wichita.

Colorado remained at 12. Alaska stayed at 9 and California was unchanged at 7 rigs. Ohio’s count of 11 rigs was the same as a week ago and Pennsylvania experienced no change with 18 rigs.
Utah continued with a count of 10. West Virginia remained at 7 rigs and Wyoming’s count of 13 was the same as a week ago.
