A New Mexico regulatory board recently turned aside voiced opposition to a plan to allow more use of oil and gas wastewater.

Opponents argued before the Water Quality Control Commission for nearly three hours, contending the proposed expansion of wastewater use would lead to contamination of the state’s limited supply of drinking water.

Among the opponents were environmental groups such as Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, Amigos Bravos and Western Environmental Law Center. A State Senator also presented a letter from 25 Democrdatic lawmakers who supported keeping the current rule in place.
