Lower oil prices haven’t affected Oklahoma’s rig counts so far

The latest Baker Hughes rig count showed Oklahoma’s drilling activity is seeing no sign of weakening or declining, despite the drop in crude oil prices.

Oklahoma’s count of 43 was unchanged from a week earlier and the figures showed the strongest drilling activity remains in the Granite Wash of the western region of the state. The Granite Wash has 16 active rigs.

The next strongest play is the Cana Woodford where there are 15 active rigs. The Ardmore Woodford continued for another week with one rig and the Arkoma Woodford remained void of any reported drilling activity, according to the Baker Hughes report.

The Mississippi lost its only rig and now has no reported drilling. However, since the Mississippi also extends into southern Kansas, the loss could be in Kansas.

Elsewhere, the Permian Basin, king of drilling activity, saw a drop of one, leaving 255 rigs.

The Eagle Ford added a rig for a total of 39 while the Haynesville in easternTexas and Louisiana dropped one to 40 rigs.

The Marcellus was unchanged at 24 rigs. The Williston in North Dakota and Montana remained at 31 and the Utica stayed at 12 rigs.

The D-J Niobrara continued with a count of 9 rigs and the Barnett stayed at 2 rigs.
