Drive-In Theater fights oil well drilling site at Chickasha

The operators of the oldest drive-in theater in Oklahoma are in a fight to stop an oil drilling rig from locating about 500 feet from their business in Chickasha.

Barbara Egbert, who along with her husband Greg, runs the Chief Drive-In Theater south of Chickasha off highway U.S. 81 in Ninnekah. They’re at an impasse with Camino Natural Resources, an energy company headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

The Southwest Ledger’s Mike Ray reports the energy firm received a permit from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to drill a well within Chickasha city limits and the site is within about 500 feet of the theater’s back row.

The Egberts have appealed to the Chickasha City Council to do something because of the anticipated light and noise pollution the drilling would cause next to the theater.
