With the Trump administration reopening the door for government funding of EV chargers for states seeking the money, Colorado announced this week $5 million in grants for new high-speed fast-chargers around the state.
However, in this case, the funding is from the Colorado Energy Office and not the federal government.
Using the funds, the state intends to add 52 new ports at nine locations. Colorado has more than 1,400 fast-charging ports around the state. Some are privately owned and others were funded by state and federal grants.
The additional ports are part of the state’s effort to put 940,000 light-duty EVs on the road by 2030. Colorado launched the EV port project in 2020 to make sure EV drivers would not be stranded with no site to charge their vehicle batteries.
