Williams former CEO and President Alan Armstrong must have finally gotten the “red carpet treatment” from the state of New York.
The Tulsa company, in the past few days, submitted an application for approval of the natural gas pipeline extension project the state rejected a few years ago because of opposition to natural gas. Williams is seeking approval of the Northeast Supply Enhancement Line, an expansion of the pipeline that extends from Pennsylvania to New York and New Jersey.
Armstrong had declared earlier this year his company would not attempt to resurrect the project unless New England governors rolled out the red carpet. Instead, he said the Oklahoma natural gas company he controlled, would focus its efforts on southeastern states. But with the arrival of the Trump administration, higher electricity rates hitting New England and data centers choosing to avoid those states, New England governors have reversed their opposition to natural gas to power electric generation projects.
