After a large jump in oil and rigs last week across the U.S. the industry saw a decline this week, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count released on Friday.
The U.S. total fell by two to 542 rigs while Oklahoma’s count was unchanged. The nation’s decline included a drop of 7 oil rigs to 415 while the number of gas rigs grew by 5 to 122. The miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at 5 and the offshore numbers were constant at 13 rigs.
The U.S. total is still 47 fewer than last year at this time when the count was 589. The decline included 67 oil rigs but an increase of 21 gas rigs while the number of miscellaneous rigs slipped by one.
Oklahoma saw no change in the past week as 42 active oil and gas rigs were reported compared to 35 one year earlier.
The count in Texas declined by four t o 249. New Mexico slipped by one to 93 and North Dakota was unchanged at 29. Louisiana’s count grew by two to 35.
Colorado added 3 for a total of 12 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service reported the count in Kansas fell by four to 18 rigs.
California continued with 6 rigs and Alaska’s total fell by one to 9 rigs. Ohio stayed at 11 while Pennsylvania’s count increased by one to 18. Utah was unchanged at 10. West Virgina remained at 7 while the number of rigs in Wyoming slipped two to 15 rigs.
