Oklahoma Congressman Josh Brecheen called it “great news.” He supported the recent decision by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to withdraw the proposed Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rule requiring speed-limiting devices for truck drivers.
It was called the speed limiters rule and was introduced in 2022 by the Biden administration’s FMCSA which said it was proposed “because of concerns about the number of CMV (commercial motor vehicle) crashes and fatalities traveling at high speeds.”
Rep. Brecheen disagreed.
“This move slashes a red tape mandate and will improve the quality of life for American truckers—a promise kept by President Trump for the millions of men and women who work so hard to keep our economy moving!”
In a statement from his office, Rep. Brecheen was critical of the Biden administration’s move, saying truck drivers faced what he called an “unnecessary and dangerous regulation dreamt up by out of touch DC bureaucrats.”
He reintroduced the DRIVE Act this year to prevent future administrations from reviving such a rule.
” Grateful to see the Trump administration yet again correct the abuses of the Biden era and prioritize our truckers!,” said Brecheen.
Three years ago, the administration maintained, “In 2019, there were 860 fatal crashes in areas with posted speed limits of 70 to 75 miles per hour. Twenty-four fatal crashes in areas with posted speed limits between 80 to 85 miles per hour. Approximately 20 percent of fatal crashes occur in areas with posted speed limits in these ranges. The rule will help reduce crashes and save lives on our nation’s roadways.”

Brecheen also applauded the President for “fulfilling promises on Green Energy,” and at the same time was critical of another Republican.
So proud of President Trump’s administration in working to fix this after the super majority of Americans and members of Congress felt betrayed by Murkowski slipping in a last-minute Senate provision in the OBBB specific to green energy. A major part of the hesitation on the OBBB when it came back to the House 48 hours later was due to Murkowski’s inserted change. A few days later, President Trump thankfully issued an executive order to address abuse specific to wind and solar projects.
This administration is moving the ball forward in alignment with most Americans who are tired of watching their tax dollars subsidize projects that should stand on their own. This deficit driving activity is unfair as it takes from the many to give to the few—happy that the White House won’t take that for an answer!
