OGE offers tips to stay cool during the summer

As temperatures rise and summer sets in, many customers are looking for practical ways to manage their energy usage and keep monthly bills in check while staying cool.

To help navigate the hottest months of the year, OG&E is sharing simple, effective tips that can make a real difference in reducing energy consumption and costs.

OG&E’s Energy-Saving Tips

  1. Set your thermostat at the highest comfortable temperature. Each degree a thermostat is raised can save you up to 3-4% on your bill.
  2. Close the drapes and blinds on the sunny side of the house.
  3. Optimize your home’s energy efficiency. OG&E’s Energy Efficiency Program offers home upgrades, such as attic insulation and sealing windows and doors, that can help offset costs. See if you qualify here.
  4. Keep the air moving in the house by using fans. A ceiling fan uses about as much electricity as a light bulb – and far less energy than an air conditioning unit.
  5. Tune up your A/C unit. OG&E’s A/C Tune-Up service can boost your unit’s energy efficiency by up to 30% for qualifying customers.
  6. Routinely clean or replace your air filters.
  7. Use a slow cooker, outdoor grill or air fryer. These are great alternatives to ovens, which can raise the temperature inside your home and make your AC work harder.
  8. Avoid using large appliances during the hottest parts of the day. Run washers, dryers and dishwashers overnight.
  9. Monitor your Energy Insights to better control your energy use. Understand how you use energy by checking your Energy Insights on OGE.com
  10. Use LED bulbs. LEDs use less electricity and produce less heat than incandescent bulbs.
  11. Unplug idle electronics. Devices like TVs, chargers and game consoles can use power even when off.
