Grain Belt Express fight heats up

The immense Grain Belt Express project, the one designed to carry wind-powered electricity from southwest Kansas to Indiana, faces a rocky road.

In one of the latest developments, project developer Invenergy, is urging Energy Secretary Chris Wright to continue with the $4.9 billion conditional loan guarantee originally promised by the Biden administration. But Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley claims he had “secured a pledge” from Wright to halt the 800-mile project.

Reports indicate Invenergy, in a letter to Wright last week, urged him to ignore what it called “unfounded noise” and to “affirm a commitment to the Grain Belt Express to reach closing, following the fulfillment of conditions negotiated in our conditional commitment.”
