The proposed new nuclear reactor that developers want to locate at Amarillo, Texas is also at the center of a report indicating an official from President Trump’s DOGE told the head of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to “rubber stamp” the project along with others.
Fermi America, a firm co-founded by former Texas Gov. and Energy Secretary Rick Perry recently announced plans to build its plant in Amarillo. Perry and others behind the project propose building the nation’s largest nuclear power complex they call the “HyperGrid” and locate it adjacent to the largest u.S. assembly plant for nuclear weapons known as Pantex.
