5,000-acre solar farm okayed for upper Texas Panhandle

Another major solar farm in the region has been approved, this one 5,000 acres in size in the Texas Panhandle north of Amarillo. While Oklahomans are fighting a proposed 5,000 acre solar farm by NextEra Energy near the town of Porter, quick approval has come for one just south of the Oklahoma Panhandle.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) approved the connections of the farm proposed by the Panhandle Solar Group which was created four years ago and has been working for development of the solar operation. Stinnett is the County Seat.

Approval came only three months after a solar energy farm opened near Tulia. The Amarillo Globe News reported the Panhandle Solar Group has nearly 14,500 acres under lease and some of the land is around Borger.
