Grid offers winter advisory for the week

With another round of arctic weather breathing down our necks in Oklahoma, the state and other members of the electric grid known as the Southwest Power Pool are urged to be aware of the potential for an impact on electricity needs.

Its advisories to member states will apply almost the entire week.

The latest Resource Advisory from the SPP applies for all of the 14-member states who were also told it does not require the public to conserve energy. It will take effect Wednesday, Feb. 19 until an anticipated end time of Thursday, Feb. 20 at 11 p.m. central time.

As the SPP made clear, the advisory is issued to raise awareness of potential threats to reliability among entities responsible for operating transmission and generation facilities. The Resource Advisory was also declared due to forecasted extremely cold temperatures, and the potential for higher than normal demand for electricity and resource outage uncertainty.

This Resource Advisory is in addition to the previously declared Weather Advisory, which will be effective Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 12:00 a.m. CT until an anticipated end time of Friday, February 21, at 12:00 p.m. CT.. CT.
