The wildfire season has already started in several states as the western part of the country is experiencing one of the worst droughts in hundreds of years.
New Mexico is quickly gearing up for the fire season according to Wendy Mason, the New Mexico State Forestry Wildfire Prevention and Communications Coordinator.
“Right now, New Mexico is facing one of the worst droughts on record. Increasing temperatures and lack of moisture due to climate change have left our lands parched and primed for wildfire.”
California suffered 4.2 million acres burned last year and the Center for Western Priorities reported the state has already hired nearly 1,400 extra firefighters.
