Violence over energy prices leaves dozens dead in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan—now that’s a real insurrection and it has to do with energy! Oil and gas, the product that the U.S. had sent overseas as the world’s largest oil exporter—-until President Biden killed the Keystone XL pipeline last year in a move he thought would lower the price of gasoline.

Instead, some observers suggest it likely aided Russia’s Vladimir Putin and his control of energy prices, not only in Russia but within its states as well as countries in Europe.

Why should Oklahomans pay attention to Kazakhstan?  Because it is a critically import oil and natural gas state that shares borders with Russia and China. It is a strategically important nation, that’s why. Putin knows it. That’s why he sent military troops into Kazakhstan after public unrest over increased energy prices.

As a result, dozens are reportedly dead in the violence that swept across the nation beginning on New Year’s Day due to a hike in fuel prices.
