Baker Hughes reports increased nationwide rig count

2 dead in explosion, fire at Oklahoma oil rig

 

The most recent rig activity report from Baker Hughes showed an increase of 2 to to 588 oil and gas rigs nationwide while Oklahoma’s count was unchanged at 49.

The Oklahoma numbers compared to 18 reported one year ago by Baker Hughes. Texas remained of course the state with the largest count at 274 rigs, a decline of 3 from a week ago. A year ago, Texas recorded only 161 active oil and gas rigs.

New Mexico gained one to reach 95 active rigs. North Dakota was unchanged at 27. The count in Kansas dropped by one to 42 according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Association.

Colorado’s numbers stayed at 12 rigs while Louisiana gained 3 to reach 52 rigs. Ohio was unchanged at 11. Pennsylvania stayed at 29 rigs. West Virginia continued with 10 rigs while Wyoming’s count increased by one to 16.

The Permian Basin count slipped one to 292 while the Williston stayed 27 and the Granite Wash continued with 4 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford stayed at one rig while the Arkoma Woodford was unchanged at 2. The Cana Woodford count slipped by 2 to 26 rigs.

The D-J Basin added a rig to reach 12. The Haynesville was unchanged at 49 while the Marcellus stayed at 29. The Utica was unchanged at 11.
