Nation’s rig count grows according to Baker Hughes report

While Oklahoma was unchanged with 48 oil and gas rigs active in the state, the nation’s count increased by 7 to 586 according to the latest report from Baker Hughes Co.

The firm reported the most recent count included 5 additional oil rigs for a total of 480 while the number of gas rigs grew by two to 106. The U.S. count is 238 higher from a year ago when the total was 348. In the past year there has been an increase of 216 oil rigs and 23 gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s count compares to 279 in Texas where the number increased by 4 rigs in the past week. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita showed the Kansas rig count fell by one to 43.

Colorado was unchanged at 12 while Louisiana’s count slipped by one to 48. New Mexico gained four to reach 93 active rigs while North Dakota stayed at 27 and Ohio remained at 11. Pennsylvania was unchanged at 19 while West Virginia stayed at 10 rigs and Wyoming saw no change at 15 rigs.

The Permian Basin remains the most active region of the country where the number of active rigs increased by 6 to a total of 294.

The Haynesville count grew by one to 48 while the Eagle Ford was unchanged at 44 and the Granite Wash in western Oklahoma stayed at 4 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford remained at one rig while the Arkoma Woodford stayed at 2 rigs. The Cana Woodford saw its numbers grow by 2 to 27 rigs.

The D-J Niobrara in Colorado stayed at 11 rigs while the Marcellus was unchanged at 29. The Utica continued with 11 rigs while the Williston was unchanged at 27 rigs.
