Rig activity on hold in Oklahoma but growing nationwide

The latest rig numbers from Baker Hughes show Oklahoma is on hold with its count—44 rigs as of this past week, same as the previous week.

Over the past week, figures from state regulators showed no new permits to drill and no new completion reports in Oklahoma.

Nationally, numbers increased 6 to 556 total. The number of oil rigs grew by 4 to 454 while the number of gas rigs increased by 2 to 102. In the past year, the rig count saw an additional 244 rigs from the 312 a year ago.

The number of oil rigs increased by 218 over the past year while gas rigs grew by 29.

While Oklahoma remained at 44, compared to 14 a year earlier, the rig activity in Texas soared by 10 to 264. The Red Top Rig Report from the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita reported the Kansas numbers dropped by one to 40 rigs.

New Mexico’s count slipped by 5 to 81 while Louisiana saw numbers grow by one to 49. North Dakota was unchanged at 23 and Colorado stayed at 12 rigs.

Wyoming continued with 15 rigs. West Virginia’s count fell by one to 10 and Pennsylvania was unchanged at 18 rigs.

Ohio saw an increase of 2 to 12 rigs.

The Permian Basin total, the count combined in West Texas and southeast New Mexico increased by one to 272. The Williston in North Dakota remained at 24 rigs while the Eagle Ford saw a gain of one rig to 41.

Granite Wash - Mineral Rights Forum

The Granite Wash in Oklahoma was unchanged at 3 rigs while the activity in the Ardmore Woodford dropped to zero with the loss of 2 rigs. The Arkoma Woodford stayed at 3 rigs while the Cana Woodford gained 2 rigs to reach a total of 24.

The D-J Niobrara was unchanged with 12 rigs. The Haynesville stayed at 46 rigs.
