Wind power topped natural gas in Texas in March

The most electricity generated in Texas in the month of March came from wind turbines according to a report by Reuters.

The news agency quoted federal energy data and explained that analysts at S&P Global Platts stated it was the first time that wind power generated more electricity than gas-fired power plants.

Wind generated 39% of the power in March in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

That compares with 30% for gas, 15% for coal, 12% for nuclear and 4% for solar. February’s figures were far different as gas generated 46% of the power in ERCOT. The remainder was 21% from wind, 19% from coal, 12% from nuclear and 2% from solar power.
