Tough pipeline protest law in Kansas angers Native Americans

 

Some Native American legislators in Kansas contend a new state law there making it a misdemeanor to trespass near oil and gas pipelines unfairly targets Native American protesters.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat signed the bill into law last week and it takes effect July 1. It’s already a felony in the state to damage oil and gas pipelines but the new law also makes it a felony to trespass with the intent of damaging them, according to the
