Oklahoma AG tries to become involved in Oneta Power lawsuit

Because of the US Supreme Court “McGirt” decision, Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter is attempting to become a part of Oneta Power LLC’s lawsuit challenging its property taxes.

The lawsuit was filed in Wagoner County and because the Supreme Court ruling almost granted autonomous authority by the Muscogee (Creek) tribe, Hunter is attempting to defend the state’s authority to tax certain property on the reservation.

The Tulsa World and The Oklahoman reported Hunter filed a motion last week in Wagoner County District Court.
