** New data indicates Permian Basin oil and gas production is now close to pre-pandemic levels.

** A company developing what it says is the first plant converting food waste and wastewater into natural gas won initial approval from a California agency Tuesday to raise $13 million in the tax-exempt debt market to finance it.

** The nation’s largest coal miners’ union said Monday it would accept President Joe Biden’s plan to move away from coal and other fossil fuels in exchange for a “true energy transition” that includes thousands of jobs in renewable energy and spending on technology to make coal cleaner.

** Chinese coal consumption is poised to hit a record this year, according to a closely watched global tracking firm, a bump up that contradicts the view held by many climate change and energy experts that coal burning in the world’s second-biggest economy and largest polluter had peaked.
