Baker Hughes reports big jump in nation’s rig activity

 

The weekly rig report released by Baker Hughes Co. showed an increase of 13 drilling rigs nationally to reach a total of 430. Oklahoma numbers increased by two to reach a total of 19 rigs actively drilling for oil and gas in the state compared to 29 a year ago.

Nationally, the number of oil rigs grew by 13 to reach 337 while the total of gas drilling rigs fell one to 91. The U.S. count is still 234 below the 664 reported a year ago including a drop of 225 oil rigs and 9 gas rigs.

Texas remains the leader with 209 rigs, up four from a week ago. Louisiana’s count added one to reach 47 while New Mexico’s numbers grew by three to 70 rigs.

North Dakota stayed at 14 and Ohio remained at 9 rigs. Pennsylvania’s count of 19 was one more than a week ago. The number of active rigs in West Virginia slipped by one to 11. Wyoming’s numbers remained at five. The Red Top Rig report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Kansas showed only 12 active rigs.

The Anadarko and Ardmore Woodfords remain without any rig activity. The Granite Wash saw its first drilling rig in weeks. No numbers were indicated for the Mississippian according to Baker Hughes.

The DJ Basin in Colorado continued with 7 rigs while the Eagle Ford of South Texas added two to reach 33 rigs.

The Haynesville play numbers slipped by one to 44. The Marcellus stayed at 30. The Permian Basin count grew by three to 224. The Utica was unchanged at 9 and the Williston stayed at 14.
