Several things were at play Thursday as oil prices rose more than 2% in trading.
There was the the factor of a weaker dollar along with expectations that a crude oil glut might not exist for long following a steep drop in U.S. fuel stocks along with Texas refineries resuming operations after the February winter storm shutdowns.
Brent crude oil futures for May settled up $1.73, or 2.6%, to $69.63 a barrel while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude for April ended the session $1.58 or 2.5% higher, at $66.02.
Three Oklahoma energy firms had big trading days on Thursday. Blueknight Energy Partners LP had a more than 15% gain on a 41-cent increase to $3.12.
Laredo Petroleum Inc. saw a 13.08% gain when stocks jumped $4.70 to settle at $40.64.
LSB Industries Inc. finished with a 9.13% gain on a 39 cent hike to $4.66.
