Whopping energy bills in Texas—Lt. Gov. says “read the fine print”

The Lieutenant Governor in Texas says the reason some Texans received whopping and exorbitant energy bills following the historic freeze is because they took a gamble and lost.

Dan Patrick wasn’t being cold about the situation but explained those who received the high bills, $16,000 in one case, made a choice to either set their rates or gamble on lower rates.

It’s the same in Oklahoma where customers can take a gamble that their low rates will stay low throughout the winter months. Or they can choose a set rate. As Patrick pointed out, some Texans hit with the exorbitant bills gambled that their cheap deal would get them through the winter, and it didn’t.

“—the people who are getting those big bills are people who gambled on a very, very low rate. But I’ve told those folks: Do not panic. We are going to figure that out.”

Interviewed on Fox News, Patrick promised that those in trouble will be helped, but he also urged future customers to “read the fine print.”
