Oil and gas industry supporters said it would happen—cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and it will lead to increased use of rail and truck transports to move Canadian oil into the U.S.

President Biden’s decision to kill the pipeline has indeed led to an increased and renewed interest in shipping Canadian oil-sands crude by rail. Supporters of the pipeline had argued that shipping crude oil by rail carried more of a potential of harm to the environment than a buried pipeline.
