New Mexico mayor expresses ‘disdain’ for Biden’s executive orders

The Mayor of Carlsbad, New Mexico was blunt in his assessment of President Biden’s most recent anti-oil and gas executive order—the one banning new drilling on federal lands.

“National comments that thousands of oilfield workers can “just find other jobs” have come across as unsympathetic, unrealistic, and certainly unhelpful. Rural, working-class Americans feel dismissed and disenfranchised, and they are fearful for their families and the future,” said Mayor Dale Janway in a letter sent to U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Lujan as well as U.S. Rep Yvetter Herrell.

“We hope you will convey our sincere disdain for these orders and do everything within your power to protect the energy industry of New Mexico, and the thousands of workers who are being negatively impacted,” said the Mayor.
