Colorado regulators sign off on Xcel Energy’s largescale EV project

Xcel Energy’s Public Service Company of Colorado is moving ahead with a $110 million aggressive transportation electrification plan to put more electric vehicles on the road in the state.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission recently approved Xcel’s largest-ever such plan that has a goal of putting 940,000 EVs on the road by 2030. The project will include the installation of 20,000 charging stations across the state, a move that state leaders see as a way to lower carbon emissions in Colorado.

In addition, the plan will provide rebates for the purchase of an EV and programs to assist manage the new charging load the state will face as a result of such an increase in electrical vehicles on the road.

Colorado consumers will help pay for it. Xcel’s plan will mean another 67 cents a month for consumers.

Colorado leaders have set a goal of 940,000 EVs on the road in 9 years.
