Democrats have a “not so fast” minute about Interior Secretary nomination

Democratic leaders in the U.S. House now are sounding alarms over President-elect Biden’s nomination of New Mexico Congresswoman Deb Haaland to be his Secretary of the Interior.

Seems they are concerned about maintaining their control of the House. E & E News reports House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn wants Biden to delay sending Haaland’s nomination as well as Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge to be the HUD Secretary to Capitol Hill and wait until after a March special election to replace Louisiana Rep. Cedric Richmond.

Here’s why. As it is now, the Democratic majority in the House will be just 220 members when the 117th Congress convenes next month. The House requires 218 votes to pass legislation and the 220 member majority is the slimmest count since World War II.
