Corporation Commission continues with regulatory power over Indian lands

 

For now, Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners won’t be giving any regulatory authority over oil and gas activities inside Indian Country to the tribes.

Commissioners voted last week to continue with their authority over the region of land despite last spring’s U.S. Supreme Court McGirt decision which said criminal prosecutions must be handled by federal courts on Indian land and not by the state.
