Oklahoma lends help to Louisiana for Hurricane response

 

Oklahoma sent help to Louisiana as Hurricane Laura roared out of the Gulf of Mexico and hit the state.

Gov. Kevin Stitt sent an Oklahoma Type III Urban Search and Rescue Team with water rescue capabilities.

 

“In times of need, the State of Louisiana has faithfully stepped up to help our state and people, and we in turn do the same,” said Stitt. “I am proud of the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management for quickly sending a support team to our neighboring state as they prepare for the impact of Hurricane Laura.”

The US&R team is a 35-person team is comprised of personnel from Tulsa Fire, Tulsa Police, Broken Arrow Fire, Owasso Fire, Sand Springs Fire, Verdigris Fire and the Grand River Dam Authority.

The Office of Emergency Management earlier sent an Emergency Operations Center Support Team to Louisiana to help forward operations and response coordination.
