Rig counts fall in Oklahoma and U.S.

More oil and gas drilling rigs have gone into inactivity across the U.S. and in Oklahoma in the past week.

Oklahoma’s rig count dropped by 5 to reach 97. A year ago, the state had 141 rigs pursuing new energy. The national count, according to Baker Hughes Co. dropped by 4 to 963. The number of oil rigs fell by 5 to 788 while gas rig numbers rose by one to reach 174.

But the national count is still 89 fewer than last year’s 1,052 count. Of surrounding states, only New Mexico and Kansas saw an increase in rigs. New Mexico’s count rose by 3 to 102.

The count in Kansas, according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service increased by 3 to reach 31.

Louisiana’s count dropped by 4 to 68 wile the number of rigs in Texas slipped one to 463.  North Dakota remained at 55 while Colorado stayed at 29 and Wyoming was unchanged with 32 working rigs.

The Woodford plays in Oklahoma remained unchanged at 8 while the Granite Wash continued at 4 rigs. The Mississippian stayed at 2. The D-J Basin in Colorado and Southern Wyoming continued with 26 working rigs. The Permian Basin added two rigs to reach 443. The Williston in North Dakota was unchanged at 55 rigs.
