Another small earthquake has been reported in southern Oklahoma while two more occurred over the weekend in the northern part of the state. They are the latest to be monitored closely by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission as state regulators attempt to control activity linked by scientists to wastewater well disposal operations.
The southern quake measured 2.5 magnitude and happened Saturday night around 11:20. Its epicenter was only about 3 miles from the city of Velma and it was at a depth of approximately 3 miles. (see below)
About 55 minutes later, a quake measuring 2.8 magnitude was reported near the northern community of Toga which is about 33 miles east of Woodward. It had a depth of nearly 3 miles.
The third quake happened Sunday afternoon shortly before 4 o’clock and was nearly under the small town of Hayward which is about 22 miles east of Enid. It measured 2.5 magnitude and was at a depth of about 2.5 miles.
