DEQ to issue environmental grants in January

The Oklahoma Environmental Quality Education Committee plans to hand out environmental grants to schools in early 2019 and the grants include amounts up to $1,000.

The DEQ’s Education Committee is urging schools, students and teachers to apply for the grant “to promote enthusiasm in young people for learning about the environment and natural resources.”

The one qualification? You must be an Oklahoma teacher, public or private, a school environmental club, youth group leader or an organization with a youth component.

Applicants may apply for amounts from $100 up to $1,000 per grant.  A total of $12,500 will be awarded in early 2019 to winning applicants.

Eligible categories include: environmental club projects, green school efforts, edible school gardens, environmental education projects, outdoor classroom revitalization, and recycling and composting programs. Deadline for submission of grant applications is December 15, 2018.  Recipients will be notified by January 31, 2019.

Information on allowable expenditures, application criteria, and examples of previous applications are available at http://deq.state.ok.us/mainlinks/eepage.htm. Funds for the program are generated by the sale of the Environmental Awareness License Tag. Applications may be obtained at your local tag agency.
