Costello picks up endorsement of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in race for Labor Commissioner

It’s an office that gets little publicity but can have a big impact on the energy industry in Oklahoma. It’s the race for the Oklahoma Labor Commissioner and this week, GOP hopeful Cathy Costello won the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

It’s considered a major endorsement since Cruz won Oklahoma’s GOP Presidential Primary in 2016 with more than 158,000 Republican votes.

“Our republic requires an active participation by all of us and it’s encouraging when solid conservatives step up to run for office,” said the Senator in making the announcement. “I’m asking Oklahoma voters to carefully consider the choices before them in this election cycle and to stand with those who have proven themselves to be conservatives of conviction.  In the race for Labor Commissioner, I am proud to endorse Cathy Costello, and I urge the voters of Oklahoma to join me by supporting her.”

Costello is in a runoff with Rep. Leslie Osborn and the race will be decided in the Aug. 28 primary. The winner will take on Democrat Fred Dorrell who picked up more than 73% of the votes in the June primary.

Costello said she met Sen. Cruz during his Presidential campaign.

“I want the voters of Oklahoma to know that Senator Ted Cruz and I are both cut from the same cloth,” she said. “We both came from humble beginnings and worked out way to success, we value the integrity of workers in the free market, and we both are determined to fight for limited government.”
