OKC Considers $1.7 million Incentive for Amazon

The Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust meets Tuesday to consider a $1.7 million incentive to bring Amazon’s fulfillment center to the metro area.

The $153 million center would create an estimated initial 53 jobs with a starting annual salary of $60,000 but eventually, total employment would be close to 1,750.

Plans call for the 2.6 million square foot center to be located on 69-acres near the Will Rogers World Airport.  Under the proposed terms of the agreement, there would be a 40-year lease with an annual rent of $242,039.26.

Amazon already has a $3 million “Sortation Center” near SW 15 and Council in Oklahoma City where packaged items are sorted before being delivered to customers.

If the Economic Development Trust approves the incentive, the item would then be referred to the City Council.  With Council approval, work on the center could begin as early as June.
