Oklahoma Wind Farm Operator Expanding With a Farm in South Texas

A Spanish company with a handful of wind farms in Oklahoma has announced plans to build a $200 million wind farm in Texas.

The new Palmas Altas by ACCION Energia will be located near Brownsville and close to the San Roman wind farm that powered up more than two years ago.

ACCION said the newest wind farm will produce 524 GWh each year which is equivalent to consumption of 43,000 households. The company said over the 25-year lifespan, Palmas Altas will generate an estimated $40 million in local tax revenue and $44 million in lease payments to local landowners.

A third of ACCION is owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. The company has 164 wind farms in nine nations. Those in Oklahoma are the Blue Canyon II located near Carnegie, the Red Hills Wind Farm near Elk City and the Big Smile farm in Roger Mills and Beckham counties.

The Red Hills was ACCION’s first in the state and consists of 82 wind towers. Work started in 2008. Blue Canyon II has 84 wind towers located near Anadarko.
