Profits up, fuel sales down at Travel Centers of America

Ever wonder just how profitable some of those big truck stop companies are?  Travelcenters of America, with operations throughout Oklahoma is out with its quarterly and year-end financial results.

Its total revenues for 2017 came to more than $6 billion while the fourth quarter revenues totaled $1.5 billion, up from the $1.4 billion reported in the last quarter of 2016.

That’s a lot of gasoline to be pump and food to be served at the company’s 223 sites around the U.S. However, fuel sales were down by 5.6 million gallons or 1.0 %. The company blamed the drop in gasoline sales “primarily from increased competition.” While the volume of gasoline pumped was down, fuel revenues were up 167.9 million or 17.8% in the fourth quarter compared to a year earlier.

Nonfuel revenues were up $8.6 million or 1.9% in the fourth quarter.
