National Tornado Summit to be held in OKC

Once again, a national tornado summit will be held in Oklahoma City and this year’s event will feature more than 50 speakers. Tornadoes are nothing new to the state’s energy industry, whether they’re threatening drilling crews or tearing up wind farms.

Among the speakers scheduled for the event on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Cox Convention Center is Roy Wright, Deputy Associate Administrator for Insurance and Mitigation at FEMA.

Others include Matt Paxton, founder of Legacy Navigator who is featured onthe hit A and E TV show “Hoarders” and Hank Watkins, President of Lloyd’s North America.

Reed Timmer, Phd. and meteorologist at AccuWeather will speak along with Chris Ramseyer, Director of the Donald G. Fears Structural Engineering Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma.

They will join emergency managers, insurance professionals and engineers from across the U.S. in learning how to better prepare for and respond to tornadoes, floods, wildfires, hail storms, cyber attacks and other disasters.

The Summit is hosted by the Oklahoma Insurance Department, University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma Emergency Management, NOAA National Weather Service and National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
