U.S. EPA Adds Midwest City’s Abandoned Eagle Industries Site to Superfund List

A contaminated former industrial site in Midwest City was added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s national priorities list for Superfund sites on Tuesday, according to a news report by The Oklahoman.

As previously reported by OK Energy Today, the Eagle Industries site was located southeast of Oklahoma City at 10901 SE 29th in Midwest City. The facility was an inspection and repair operation for aircraft oxygen and fire extinguisher systems. It operated from 1990 to 2010. In 2003, the state discovered improper disposal of dichloroethane and trichloroethyelene, considered to be a threat to surrounding area ground water.

More than 850 Superfund sites nationwide have some type of actual or planned reuse underway. The EPA reviewed 454 Superfund sites supporting use or reuse activities and found they had nearly 3,900 businesses with 108,000 employees.

Additional environmental testing will extend to a second Eagle site at 8828 SE 29th Street. This parcel is currently owned by the City of Midwest City.
