Rig Count: US Adds 8, Texas Adds 7 and Oklahoma Drops One

While the U.S. added to its weekly oil and gas rig count, Oklahoma’s count dropped by one to hit 122, according to figures from Baker Hughes Company.

The latest oil and gas rig count report showed the national count is at 915 which reflects the addition of eight new rigs.

Compared to a year ago, the national rig count is 327 more than the 588 reported in November of 2016.

Canada reported an increase of five in the past week to settle at 208 rigs.

Oklahoma’s count of 122 rigs compares to 449 in Texas where they added seven new rigs in the past week. Kansas reports 35 rigs, six less than a week ago according to the Red Top Rig Report. Colorado lost a rig to reach 36. New Mexico also lost one to reach 68. North Dakota dropped by one rig to hit 46. Louisiana added four and is at 62 working rigs.

Of the oil plays, the Permian Basin added five rigs to reach 391. The Haynesville play added two for a total of 40. Cana Woodford and Utica added a rig each. The DJ Niobrara dropped a rig to hit 25 while the Williston play also lost a rig for a new total of 47 active rigs.
