Confirmation Vote on Pruitt Maybe Next Week?

Sounds like Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s confirmation vote to be the EPA director could happen sometime in the coming week.

Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is hoping for a vote in the full senate before Congress hits the road starting Feb. 17 for a recess.

“That’s my desire, my goal and what I’m suggesting,” he told reporters.

Politico’s Morning Energy report quoted Senate Energy Chairman Lisa Murkowski that she had her fingers crossed for similar confirmation votes for DOE nominee Rick Perry and Interior nominee Ryan Zinke.

But Democrats will have something to say about just how quickly a vote will come on each, especially that of Scott Pruitt to head the EPA.

Delaware Sen. Tom Carper, the ranking Democrat on the Environment and Public Woks Committee said his cause was giving though to an all-night talk-a-thon against Pruitt, much like Democrats have done on other Trump nominees.

And that led to Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas to wonder why.

“What purpose is to be served by dragging all of this out? It prevents us from turning to bipartisan legislation that would actually help the American people. And that’s a real shame.”
