Environmentalists and their organizations are making a stronger push to stop the U.S. Senate confirmation of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to become the new chief of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Ever since Pruitt was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump, the Sierra Club has been among the most vocal opponents.

In one of its most recent email pleas, the club headlined “EPA Pick’s History of Hostility to the Environment.”

“Confirmation of Scott Pruitt—-could have disastrous consequences for our health, air, water and climate,” charged the Sierra Club Insider, its official newsletter. “As attorney general of Oklahoma, Pruitt turned his office into a crony capitalist institution, suing the EPA on behalf of big polluter “clients” who turned around and gave more than $300,000 to his re-election campaign.”

The newsletter called Pruitt a climate-change denier and asked readers and Sierra Club members to oppose Pruitt’s nomination to head the EPA.

Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune plans a special Facebook Live event on Tuesday to “share the sierra Club’s strategy for resisting the Trump administration’s anticipated assault on the environment.”

The event will be at one p.m. Oklahoma time.
