Rig Count Slips in Oklahoma but Grows Nationally

While the oil and gas rig count slipped in Oklahoma in the past week, the count grew by 13 nationwide, according to Houston-based Baker Hughes Company.

Oklahoma’s count fell to 78, compared to 86 a year ago. Nationwide, the count added 13 to reach 637 including a dozen more oil rigs and one more gas rigs. The U.S. oil rig count now stands at 510 rigs while there are 126 gas rigs.

However, the national count remains 72 below the 709 rigs reported a year ago. So the nationwide count has 31 fewer oil rigs and 42 fewer gas rigs from one year ago at this time.

Canada’s count in the past week grew by 4 to reach 234 which is 72 more than the 162 reported last year at this time.

The Mississippian play in Oklahoma dropped one rig to reach three while the Granite Wash added a rig to hit 14. The Ardmore Woodford reported no working rigs while the Arkoma fell by one to four. The Permian Basin in west Texas added a dozen rigs to reach 258. The Eagle Ford in south Texas added one to hit 44.

Texas remains the most active oil and gas state in the nation with 317 working rigs, an increase of 14 in the past week. Oklahoma’s total is 78. The count in Louisiana is 47. Baker Hughes reported only one rig working in Kansas but the Red Top Rig Report from the Independent Oil and Gas Service stated there are 45 working rigs in Kansas compared to 50 a week ago.

North Dakota’s count slipped by one to reach 31. New Mexico added 2 to hit 32. Colorado’s count grew by one to reach 27.
