Oklahoma’s latest earthquake was Tuesday night in northern Oklahoma. It was a 3.2 magnitude quake with an epicenter about 20 miles northwest of Fairview.

There have been no reports of significant damage. Scientists suggest damage is not likely in earthquakes with a magnitude less than 4.0. But it was in February when a 5.1 magnitude quake struck in the same area.

Fairview has been the site of numerous quakes in the past few years and is located in Major County. It is just outside the three-county oil play called the STACK, a target last week of new earthquake rules linked to hydraulic fracturing. The Corporation Commission took the peremptory action for oil and gas fracking in Blaine, Kingfisher and Canadian Counties.

Compare the Oklahoma earthquake incident to what’s happened in California where as of Wednesday mid-morning, the state had recorded 31 earthquakes. Two were the strongest with a magnitude of 5.7 while one was 5.5 magnitude.
