Even with a 5-cent a gallon jump in gasoline prices in the past week, Oklahoma ranks 2nd lowest in the nation according to the weekly report from AAA Oklahoma.

The car group says Oklahoma’s new weekly average is $1.89 a gallon making it 30 consecutive days when the average is under $2.

Lawton has the lowest average at $1.79 while the highest is in Guymon where prices average $1.97 a gallon. Tulsa’s average is at $1.83 while motorists in Oklahoma City pay an average $1.89 a gallon.

“Doubts about the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Companies’ ability to solidify a deal to cut oil production are keeping a lid on prices,” explained Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “There is apparently still lots of tension between Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and non-OPEC member countries to the point that Saudi Arabia’s oil minister left talks yesterday mentioning that OPEC may adjourn Wednesday’s meeting in Vienna without a deal.”

The nationwide average is down a penny from a week ago, reaching $2.13 a gallon. That’s only 9 cents more than one year ago.

Missouri has the cheapest gasoline in the country with an average $1.88. Arkansas, Kansas and Texas are tied with an average of $1.90.
