For the first time since mid-August, the average price of gasoline in Oklahoma dropped below $2 a gallon, according to the latest Fuel Gauge Report from AAA Oklahoma.

Oklahoma’s new statewide average is $1.99, tied with Missouri for the lowest in the nation.

“Although Tulsa’s citywide gas price average today for regular is lower than Oklahoma City’s by seven cents, the cheapest gas can be found at stations in the OKC area—some are as low as $1.69,” said Chuck Mai, a spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “It’s the usual suspects producing lower prices at the pump nationwide—-an abundance of product, low demand and no imminent threats domestically or globally that could disrupt production.”

The lowest average is $1.86 reported in Muskogee and Enid. Lawton’s average is $1.97 while Tulsa is at $1.90, Bartlesville at $1.92 and $1.97 in Oklahoma City. Stillwater has the highest average at $2.08 a gallon.

AAA Oklahoma said the price average for the state is 17 cents below the 201 high of $2.16 posted June 11. The organization reported a nationwide average of $2.21 per gallon, a penny lower than a week ago.

Over the past week, pump prices have reportedly steadied but also are beginning to show signs of volatility. Prices dropped across much of the Great Lakes states.
