Pawnee Rattled by Another Earthquake

Nearly a month after a record 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck Pawnee, the city was rattled early Tuesday morning by a 3.5 magnitude quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey says its epicenter was about 10 miles northwest of the city but at last word, there were no reports of damage or injury.

It is the latest quake to be attributed to Oklahoma’s massive network of wastewater injection wells.  Following the Sept. 3 quake, scientists explained it revealed the existence of a new fault line, one that previously been unknown to them. It also added to worries that the new fault line and others will eventually produce more powerful earthquakes.
