Senator Accuses Clean Power Plan Opponents of Running Propaganda Machine

whitehousesheldonWhile Oklahoma U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe is well known for his stands against some of the Environmental Protection Agency and its Clean Power Plan, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is making his own charges against Clean Power Plan opponents.

He’s accusing them of running a well-oiled “propaganda machine” that he claims is supported by some of the biggest polluters in the U.S. He recently joined forces with the Center for American Progress in calling for supporters to go on the offense and raise awareness of what he called the “powerful and sophisticated” opposition campaign.

“It is important for people to understand that one side of this debate has a very powerful piece of machinery that cranks out the kind of material that they want to get out,” declared Sen. Whitehouse. “It doesn’t matter if it’s true. It doesn’t matter if it accurately states the law. These are not a group of citizens coming in and making theoretical legal points.”

He accused them of having a massive conflict of interest. Senator Whitehouse accused the U.S. Chamber of Commerce being a major opponent to the rule and said it’s out of step with its members.
